Diflucan:

Diflucan is known generically as Fluconazole, and is an anti-fungal drug used in treating a variety of fungal conditions including thrush of the mouth, fungus in the throat, lung, urinary tract, and vaginal yeast infections.

Unlike Monistat, which is an applied treatment, Diflucan is taken internally, either in liquid or tablet/capsule form, although for some conditions, injections are used.

For a yeast infection, Diflucan is generally prescribed in a single dose of 150mg, however this can be impacted by a number of factors including your weight, and other medications that you’re taking.

As with all medications, Fluconazole can cause reactions, which include hives, itching, swelling, a drop in blood pressure, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and difficulty breathing. Any of these conditions should be reported to your doctor immediately. It also has contraindications with other substances, which are not always prescription drugs. One example is that it cannot be taken with the heartburn remedy Propulsid, as it may cause heart irregularities.

Most important fact about Diflucan:Strong allergic reactions to Diflucan, although rare, have been reported. Symptoms may include hives, itching, swelling, sudden drop in blood pressure, difficulty breathing or swallowing, diarrhea, or abdominal pain. If you experience any of these symptoms, notify your doctor immediately.

Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Diflucan.

The most common side effect for people taking more than one dose is nausea.

For women taking a single dose to treat vaginal infection, the most common side effects are abdominal pain, diarrhea, headache, and nausea; changes in taste, dizziness, and indigestion may occur less often.

According to Pfizer (August 2004), the manufacturer of Diflucan, it should not be taken while pregnant or trying to get pregnant, nor should it be taken while breastfeeding, as it can pass into the milk.More information Diflucan Yeast Infection
